FALCONER – As expected, the Falconer Village Board has unanimously voted down the proposed annexation of the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities Dow Street Substation.
According to the Post-Journal, the board voted down the resolution Wednesday night during a special meeting, stating the annexation was not in the overall public interest.
The vote by the village board ensures that the annexation issue will have to be settled in state appellate court in Rochester.
Jamestown owns the property and wants to annex it on the grounds that is in the overall public interest. The city council last week formally acted on the issue with unanimous approval. Falconer, along with the town of Ellicott and Falconer School District oppose the annexation because it would result in lost tax revenue that the BPU pays on the property.
The town of Ellicott will hold a special meeting Thursday at noon to vote on the annexation.
