JAMESTOWN – Resistive heating and an overloaded space heater connection is what caused a fire that destroyed a home at 82 Bowen St. Monday night in Jamestown. That’s according to the Post-Journal, which reported Wednesday that an extension cord or surge protector near the electric space heater may have become overloaded, causing resistive heating and a subsequent fire.
Fire crews were called to the scene at about 9:30 p.m. Monday and found the home fully involved on arrival. No one was hurt but the home was a total loss. Due to safety concerns, it was demolished by the Jamestown Department of Development on Tuesday.
