MAYVILLE – A joint investigation into welfare fraud has led to seven felony charges against a Dunkirk woman.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, 51-year-old Marcia Brown allegedly lied about employment income and unemployment benefit income she was receiving from social services. Brown allegedly filed four separate false applications, which led to her receiving more than $10,000 benefits she was not entitled to, including $7,166.06 in cash assistance and $2,945 in food stamps.
Brown was charged with 3rd-degree welfare fraud, misuse of food stamps, 3rd-degree grand larceny, and four counts of 1st-degree offering a false instrument for filing.
