The Jamestown Post-Journal says a preliminary hearing was scheduled for this week involving the Dunkirk woman accused of stabbing and killing a teenager during a fight last month.
A report published Thursday says the preliminary hearing for Ashlyann Lopez-Lopez will be held in Dunkirk City Court to rule whether there was enough evidence to hold her further. Currently Lopez-Lopez is being charged with first-degree manslaughter and remains in the county jail on $500,000 cash bail. A grand jury will eventually review the evidence to determine if prosecutors should proceed with the manslaughter charge, see it increased to a more serious charge, or drop the charge all together.
The name of the victim has also been released. She has been identified as 15-year-old Jefrena Brown.
Brown and Lopez-Lopez were purportedly involved in an altercation on Lincoln Avenue on May 15 that lead to the stabbing. Brown was rushed to the hospital and later died as a result of her injury.
