DUNKIRK – State police in Fredonia say a Dunkirk man died Thursday night after crashing his car while fleeing from police.
According to a police report, State Troopers received information on 23 year-old Bryan A. Willis from the City of Dunkirk Police for having a parole violation and being possibly armed. Troopers located Willis operating a 2006 Mercury and attempted to perform a vehicle stop along with Dunkirk police.
Willis reportedly accelerated on Lakeshore Drive East and left the sight of the Troopers. He then lost control of his vehicle and struck a vacant residence at Lakeshore Drive East and North Ermine Street. Willis was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Willis was found to have a loaded handgun in his vehicle at the time of the accident. This is still an ongoing investigation.
New York State Police Troop A, Collision Reconstruction Unit and BCI are investigating the accident.
Willis was arrested in Jamestown in April 2014 on a charge of criminal possession of a weapon.
