FALCONER – A drug investigation in Jamestown on Tuesday afternoon ended with a high-speed chase that crossed over into Falconer and onto school property where after-school activities were taking place.
Jamestown police captain Robert Samuelson says investigators from the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force were conducting an investigation into methamphetamine sales at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when officers approached a vehicle on Falconer St. in the city in an attempt to secure its occupant for further investigation.
As officers approached the driver, identified as 41 year-old Donald Dean of Jamestown, he reportedly fled the scene, nearly striking officers in the process. The vehicle traveled east on Falconer St. at a high rate of speed and into the village of Falconer and onto the property at Falconer Central School, where students were taking part in after-school activities. Dean then reportedly drove into a wooded area behind the Red Roof Inn, where he then left his vehicle and tried to flee on foot but was apprehended.
Capt. Samuelson says a further investigation revealed that Dean had been renting a room at the hotel and a search warrant located a quantity of methamphetamine.
Dean charged with Cr. Poss. of a controlled substance 3rd, as well as 3 counts of Attempted Assault 1st, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest, and Reckless Driving. Dean also faces a multitude of additional traffic and criminal charges stemming from his reckless driving during the pursuit. He’s currently in city jail awaiting arraignment.
Members the Town of Ellicott Police, Sheriff’s Department, and the New York State Police assisted in the investigation and arrest.
