FREDONIA – The Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office will be the lead agency involved with investigating a fatal shooting by a Fredonia Police officer.
The Post-Journal says the DA’s office received confirmation from the New York State Attorney General’s Office that it could move forward with their investigation into the 76 Liberty St. shooting that took place in Fredonia Monday afternoon.
The incident involved an officer responding to an incident at a residence on Liberty St. and was allegedly threatened by a person inside with a knife. When the officer left the residence that person followed and the officer eventually shot and killed the suspect.
The name of the shooting victim is still being withheld pending notification of the family. The name of the officer involved has also not yet been released.
The investigation continues.
