ALBANY – The New York State Legislature will begin the 2019 session this week in Albany.
The new session is highlighted by both the Assembly and the Senate now being controlled by the Democratic Party, meaning a much more progressive agenda and action is expected for the new year.
Some of the issues that are on the agenda include legalized marijuana, sports betting and new traffic tolls in Manhattan.
Other items on their wish list include expanding state health care programs, codifying protections for abortion rights, reforming antiquated voting laws and eliminating cash bail for criminal defendants.
The session will get underway on Wednesday.
