JAMESTOWN – Sales tax collections in Chautauqua County is on the rise.
That’s according to a report in Monday’s Post-Journal, which says local sales tax collections during the first half of the year is up by 1.3 percent compared to the first half of 2014.
According to a report from the State Comptroller’s office, Chautauqua County was one of 24 counties out of 57 that saw an increase in sales tax revenue.
The total amount collected between January and June of this year was just over $26,020,000.
The sales tax rate in Chautauqua County is currently 7.5 percent, but is expected to go up to 8 percent by the end of this year. In exchange for the increase, county officials have pledged to reduce the county property tax rate by at least 3 percent.
