MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County lawmakers this month will be acting on a resolution to borrow $4 million to help pay for the upgrade of the Department of Public Facilities’ shop in Falconer.
The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting that the Chautauqua County Legislature’s Public Facilities Committee met on Monday to review the design plans for the building and also review a resolution to authorize borrowing money for the cost of construction.
Earlier this year, County DPF director George Spanos told lawmakers that the facility is in dire need of an upgrade, adding that since its construction in 1926 there have not been any new additions or upgrades to the facility.
The plan is to build a new, 24,000-square-foot building that would house all operations within the department and sit adjacent to the current facility on North Work Street in Falconer. However, several village officials and residents in Falconer have expressed concern about the new garage, which would be located to a residential area.
The resolution was approved by the committee and will go before the legislature during its next voting session on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
