MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Legislature will host a special meeting next week to give lawmakers more details on horizontal hydrolic fracturing.
Legislature Chairman Jay Gould has scheduled the meeting for 6:30 PM March 12 in Legislature Chambers. Four presentations have been scheduled with two being from the “pro” side of the issue, while the other two will present opposing viewpoints. There will also be a question and answer session for lawmakers.
Currently fracking is under a moratorium in New York. Proponents of horizontal drilling say it will provide a much needed economic boost for the state, but opponents want the state to look at all the potential health and environmental risks before making a final decision.
Wednesday’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be open to the public.
