MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Home is a step closer to getting addition funding that would help it maintain current operations well after 2013. According the Jamestown Post-Journal, the County Legislature’s Audit and Control Committee met Thursday and legislators agreed to amend a resolution to fund a local share payment out of the county’s fund balance to match an intergovernmental transfer (IGT) grant program.
The original resolution that was tabled last month called for a $500,000 local appropriation. The amended version that was passed yesterday in committee now calls for a $1.4 million local-share payment toward the matching grant. If approved by the full legislature, the County Home would receive a $3.6 million IGT payment. It will head to the legislature floor for a possible vote next week.
The county home has been the focus of much debate and discussion for the past several months. Late last year, lawmakers approved a resolution to hire the Markus and Millichap firm to market the county home to prospective buyers. That move has received much criticism from employees who work at the county-run home, as well as residents who have family members staying there.
