MAYVILLE – The part time deputies in the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department will be getting a boost in pay. That after county lawmakers Wednesday Night approved a resolution to increase the rate of pay for entry-level part timers from $13.41 an hour to $16.33 an hour.
Not everyone supported the bill. It’s biggest opponent was William Coughlin (D-Fredonia), who said the increase would equal a 22 percent raise in pay, and that’s something he felt lawmakers shouldn’t do given the current budget crisis. However, several lawmakers felt that if the increase was not approved, there was a good chance the contract would go to arbitration, with a much higher salary being the end result. In the end, the resolution passed by a vote of 15 to 8.
