JAMESTOWN – Chautauqua County health officials are asking for the public’s help in finding a dog involved in an attack on Tuesday at Chadakoin Park, along with a fisherman who reportedly helped the victim.
According to a release from the county’s Department Health and Human Services say the attack took place at about 3 p.m. Tuesday and involved a large brown pit bull grabbing onto a man’s upper leg.
A nearby fisherman soon came to help the victim. He’s described as a 6’3” white male weighing about 240 pounds, with blond hair and wearing blue jean shorts and a red shirt. Health officials are concerned because the man may have been bitten while helping to pull the dog off the victim.
Anyone with information regarding the attack, the Good Samaritan, or the suspect dog is asked to contact the Environmental Health Division of the Chautauqua County Department of Health & Human Services at 716-753-4489 during regular business hours or the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office at 716-753-4232 after regular hours.
Health officials also remind pet owners that New York State law requires all dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets be vaccinated against rabies at 3 months of age.
The next free rabies vaccination clinic is scheduled for this Thursday, July, 30, 2015 from 5- 7 p.m. at Town of Ellicott Highway Garage, East Avenue & Mosher Street, Falconer.
