JAMESTOWN – The Chautauqua County Democratic Executive Committee will be meeting Tuesday, March 31 at Taco Hut, 203 East 3rd Street, at 6:30 p.m. for the purpose of searching for county legislature candidates for the Nov. 3 general elections.
“All 19 county legislature seats are up for election this year and the Democratic Committee is seeking a few new leaders to step forward and serve our community,” said Democratic Committee Chair Norman Green. “We are an open and welcoming political party. Anyone interested in running for office or working to elect new progressive leaders is welcome to attend this meeting.”
Green added that interested county citizens can also reach the party at P.O. Box 279, Mayville NY 14757 or at the party’s www.chqdem.org website.
Of particular concentration for the Democratic search, according to Green, are Republican held seats in the Jamestown, Fredonia, Brocton, Cassadaga, Sheridan and Silver Creek areas.
Green added that candidates are also being sought out in all of the rural areas of the county where Democrats need to field county legislature candidates to ensure citizens have a choice in November.
County legislators are paid a $9,000 annual base salary and are part of the New York State retirement system. There is normally one full legislature meeting a month and several committee meetings that require attendance.
