Congressman Tom Reed Announces New Manufacturing Proposal in Jamestown

Tom Reed (R-NY) offers “Our Vision for America’s Manufacturing Future” at Blackstone Advanced Technologies in Jamestown on Oct. 6, 2016.

JAMESTOWN – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning, NY 23) was in Jamestown Thursday to unveil his latest effort to protect manufacturing jobs and create new ones for America.

Reed appeared at Blackstone Advanced Technologies in Jamestown, with other local officials to unveil his proposal, entitled “Our Vision for America’s Manufacturing Future.”

The plan contains what Reed calls a comprehensive approach to jumpstart domestic manufacturing and the local economy.  Reed said it would also provide the direction needed to rejuvenate the manufacturing industry by focusing on the development of advanced manufacturing technologies within the United States.

The plan also highlights Reed’s Revitalizing American Manufacturing and Innovation (RAMI) Act, looks at ways to prepare young Americans for career manufacturing opportunities, and encourages research and development to ensure new technologies are available to help bring products to the marketplace. Finally, Reed said his proposal also calls for comprehensive tax reform and the reduction of restrictive regulations to make it easier for manufacturers to do business.

Despite Reed’s efforts to develop policy that grows manufacturing in the region, the trend has been moving in the opposite direction. According to the New York State department of labor, manufacturing jobs in New York State have declined by 2900 during the period between August 2015  and August 2016, and they’ve declined by 6800 in the five-year period between August 2011 and August 2016.

Reed is the co-chair of the bipartisan House Manufacturing Caucus. To read the full plan, visit Reed.house.gov.

Tom Reed has had almost 6 years to accomplish “his vision” in the Southern Tier of NYS. His vision was mainly was and still is the fracking of New York State’s’ prime farming and vineyard lands, or anywhere else Reed could make it happen.

Tom Reed doesn’t suggest training for and manufacturing of clean energy ( solar, wind, or biomass, but still contends he’s “for an all of the above approach”. Where are his other ideas? Visiting an established business does not imply Reed can follow through with his stale ideas for a suffering region.
