MAYVILLE – The double murder trial of Davide Coggins of Elmira has entered its fourth week, with more witnesses for the prosecution being called to the stand Tuesday in Chautauqua County court.
According to the Jamestown Post-Journal, District Attorney David Foley presented video evidence on Tuesday placing Coggins in Chautauqua County the day the double murder was committed. One video was from the Red Roof Inn in Falconer, where an employee also testified that a man fitting Coggins description had asked for directions on how to get to Frewsburg from Falconer. A second piece of video evidence came from the CVS store in Brooklyn Square in Jamestown, where Coggins charged his cell phone and also purchased snacks.
Coggins is accused of leading three other men from Elmira to the home of Gordon and Joyce Skinner of Frewsburg to commit a burglary during the early morning of April 17, 2013. Prosecutors say the burglary turned into a double homicide when the couple was stabbed to death inside their home with their bodies then being set on fire.
Coggins and three others were arrested shortly after the crime took place. Three of the men have reportedly entered plea deals with the DA’s office in exchange for testifying against Coggins. Two of those men – Ricky Knickerbocker and Joshua McCormick – have already testified in the trial. The third individual – Steven Todd – has yet to take the stand.
The trial resumes this morning in county court.
