FRENCH CREEK – A Clymer man is in trouble with the law after an alleged road rage incident Wednesday night in the Town of French Creek.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to Marks Corners Rd. at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a motor vehicle accident with a male pointing a shotgun at another person.
On arrival deputies found 34 year-old Nathan Babcock of Clymer was allegedly waving and pointing a shotgun towards individuals involved in the accident. Babcock was order to drop the weapon and was taken into custody without incident.
After a brief investigation it was found that Babcock was chasing after a vehicle and caused the accident. He then became upset and got a shotgun out of his vehicle and hit two males in the face with it, and then fired one round into the air.
Babcock held the males at gunpoint until deputies arrived. He was charged with assault, menacing, and harassment. Following arraignment he was sent to the county jail on $15,000 cash bail.
In addition to Babcock’s arrest, police say 32 year-old Jeremy Cross of Corry, PA – who was operating the other vehicle – was allegedly driving it while intoxicated. He was arrested on related charges and will appear in court on a later date.
