JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Zoning Board of Appeals met on Wednesday to review to variance requests, with one being approved and the other being turned down.
According to the Post-Journal, the zoning board voted 6 to 0 against a use and area variance for James Chapman to operate a grocery store at 323 Newland Ave. The use variances was to allow for a grocery store to operate in an R-2 (two-family residential) district.
The Zoning Board did approve a use variance for E. Stanley Plymel to operate an auto sales business at 509 Washington St.
Meanwhile, the board tabled the variance that was to be considered to allow the installation of a Verizon Wireless cell phone tower in a residential area on Hallock Street. That request involves a use and area variance to install a 100-foot wireless telecommunications tower, disguised as a tree and located adjacent to 40 Hallock St., on a parcel owned by Hillcrest Baptist Church.
The request for the variance will be delayed until the State Environmental Quality Review has been completed.
