JAMESTOWN – The city of Jamestown is receiving less money from the federal government. The City Development Department held a public hearing Monday to discuss the proposed 2012 Community Development Block Grant and HOME Project Action Plan. Jamestown is receiving $997,113, in CDBG money, $522,940 less than the department received two years ago and $274,552 less than what it received last year. The city’s HOME Program funding totals $258,576.
The 2012 funding represents a loss of $387,926 in community development funds as compared to the 2011 allocation. The 23.6 percent reduction also means a $66,247 reduction in the Jamestown Urban Renewal Agency’s administrative budget.
At the public hearing, Centi presented the proposed allocation of the funds to specific programs as well as identified priority areas in the city that need addressed. The Department of Development recommends that 84.33 percent, or $667,690, of the active 2012 CDBG funds be allocated to proposed low-moderate benefit activities.
The programs that will receive funding include Neighborhood Target Area Demolition, Group Work Camp Programs, Downtown Handicapped Accessibility Improvement , Occupied Emergency Repair Program, Neighborhood Target Area Infrastructure Improvement Program – $224,690; and Americans with Disabilities Improvements.
