JAMESTOWN – Police are continuing their investigation into a home invasion that led to one person being shot and seriously injured early Saturday night.
According to information released by Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson, the incident took place around 8 p.m. Saturday inside an apartment at 533 E. Fifth St. Police say two black men entered the apartment and robbed the victim before shooting him. Police believe it was a targeted incident.
The suspects were wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts at the time of the home invasion. They fled the East Fifth Street area after the shooting.
The victim was taken to UPMC Chautauqua WCA hospital and later transported by ambulance to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa.
The incident is similar to other targeted shootings that took place last month in which one or more suspects approached their targets where they lived, fired shots and quickly fled the scene.
Police say anyone with information can be reached by calling 483-7537, or anonymously at 483-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent through the department’s 411 cellphone app. All calls and tips are kept confidential.
Saturday’s shooting was the eighth reported in the city this year, and only the third to result in injuries.
