JAMESTOWN – A city man is in police custody after officers he fled from officers during a traffic stop and they subsequently found more than $20,000 cash on his possession.
Jamestown Police say they stopped 29 year-old Charles Washington at about 10:30 a.m. Monday morning for a minor traffic violation on South Main Street. After the vehicle was stopped, Washington fled the vehicle with a backpack. Officers eventually tracked him down and found a large sum of cash in the backpack and after obtaining a search warrant, located a total of $20,000 in cash.
Washington was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was arraigned and sent to the county jail. Police say additional charges are pending.
