JAMESTOWN – A city man was charged with felony arson Tuesday after police accused him of setting fire to the basement of his apartment building. Police say 47 year-old Ronald Smith allegedly set the fire at 21 Sturges St. at about 2 p.m. Tuesday. The apartment is described as a multifamily building. All the occupants were able to escape uninjured and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it reached the upper floors.
Smith was charged with second-degree arson and was ordered held in city lockup until he can be arraigned.
