JAMESTOWN – The $800,000 renovation of Tracy Plaza at Jamestown City Hall should be completed within the next month and a half. That’s according to Jamestown Public Works Director Jeff Lehman, who says that the removal and replacement of the parapet wall is, for the most part, on schedule and within budget.
On Monday night, the Jamestown City Council had to approve a change order to the project for $62,434 dollars. Lehman says that additional cost was largely due to an unanticipated air leak in one of the walls.
“The biggest portion [of that change order] will go to the south wall around Tracy Plaza,” Lehman explained. “When they stripped that back, they found a 2-4 inch gap between the floor decking and the side wall, from when it was originally constructed. Obviously we have an air leak in there, so we had to shore that up, get it sealed off, and then also as we cut it back we’re taking the opportunity to insulate that section of the deck to give us a more energy efficient building.”
Lehman adds that the city had budgeted an estimated $100,000 for unanticipated costs to the project. With the latest change order, the city will have an estimated $20,000 remaining in contingency. He said the project will most likely be completed by the middle of November.
