JAMESTOWN – City councilman Alfonso Pagan (R-Ward 3) is organizing a meeting between representatives of the northside community and the owner of a local car dealership in an effort to alleviate concerns about the business expanding.
During last month’s Jamestown City Council voting session, nearly 20 different people spoke out against the planned expansion of the Dave Warren Autogroup dealership on Washington Street. The expansion involves the city de-dedicating a protino of Lafayette St. so that Warren can expand his business onto that property.
However, that portion of Lafayette St., which sits between Tenth and Eleventh Streets, is adjacent to Chadakoin Park and residents that use the park say that street is needed for access to the park and, in addition, they don’t want to see a car dealership encroaching up to the park’s property line.
The de-dedication of the street was approved by the city’s Planning Commission on Jan. 20 – but still needs City Council’s approval prior to taking place.
Pagan represents the area of the city that the park is located in. According to a recent article in the Post-Journal, he is hoping to have a meeting take place prior to a vote on the dedication of the property – although no specific date or time was reported.
