The Jamestown City Council Monday night approved a resolution involving the acquisition of property near the Appleyard Terrace housing project on E. Second St. The properties – located at 648 E. Sixth St. and 539 E Fifth St., along with an adjacent lot – would be purchased by Citizen’s Opportunity for Development and Equality Inc. (CODE) and used to help provide greenspace for residents living in the housing units.
CODE plans to apply for funding to purchase the three properties from the New York State Home and Community Renewal’s Urban Initiatives Program. It also seeks funding to demolish the two structures and rehabilitate the properties. The Urban Initiatives grant application is due by July 16. Prior to applying for the loan, CODE was required to receive a formal resolution of support from the city.
CODE is in the final stages of completing the third and final phase of the multi-million dollar Appleyard Terrace Housing project, located at Winsor and East Second streets. The project aims to provide clean, high-quality, affordable housing to low-income Jamestown residents.
