JAMESTOWN – Another step has been taken in the effort to build the National Comedy Center in downtown Jamestown.
On Monday night, the Jamestown City Council approved selling a piece of city property to the NCC. The property, which is the site of a former BPU substation located at the corner of Washington and Second street, was sold at the fair-market price of $120,000. City officials also approved the sale of a portion of the former Rose Alley to the NCC at a cost of $10,000.
A ground breaking for the National Comedy Center will take place in August with a completion date slated for August 2016.
In addition, the effort to expand the Jamestown Riverwalk will soon get underway.
Monday the Jamestown City Council also approved two resolutions involving the Riverwalk Project. One item called for the installation of guiderails for a section of the Riverwalk that will run from the Third Street Bridge to Sixth Street at a cost not to exceed $10,700 and awarded to the Pavilion Drainage Supply Co., Inc. the second resolution was for new handrails to be added to the existing bridge at Panzarella Park. That part of the project will cost $25,000 and will be done by G.L. Olson.
Funding for the latest phase of the Riverwalk project comes from a $500,000 grant from New York State, with the city providing an additional $250,000 in matching funding.
