Child Injured During Chautauqua Lake Boating Accident

August 2, 2016 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Chautauqua County SheriffCHAUTAUQUA – A four-year-old child was sent to the hospital Sunday afternoon after being involved in an accident while his family was boating on Chautauqua Lake.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened just after noon on Sunday near Chautauqua Institution. Authorities say a family was on the lake tubing and skiing. They say that a four-year-old was playing under a tube when the wind then lifted the tube into the air with the child hanging onto it. The child reportedly struck the windshield of the boat before being thrown into the lake. All occupants in the boat were wearing life jackets and the child was quickly pulled from the water.

The child sustained a cut as well as a fractured ankle and was rushed to shore and then taken by Starflight to Buffalo Women and Children’s hospital. No charges were filed. The Chautauqua Police Department and Chautauqua Fire Department assisted at the scene.
