Chautauqua County’s First Online Tax Auction Deemed a Success

August 1, 2022 By WRFA Radio 1 Comment

Chautauqua County‘s first online tax auction has been deemed a success.

County Director of Real Property Services Kim Meleen said the tax auction took place online from July 9 through 22, “We hadn’t done an auction in three years due to COVID, so there really wasn’t a place big enough to hold an in-person, or a time frame long enough to probably hold an in-person auction with the amount of properties we had.”

Meleen said there were initially 800 properties on the auction list with 400 properties going to auction. She said most of those 400 properties were sold, which is substantially more than past tax auctions. She said total financials from the auction aren’t available yet as people are still coming in to make payments.

Meleen added that the auction helps the County recoup back taxes owed, “The county guarantees taxes to all the municipalities, so they all make their tax levy amounts in their budgeted amounts. So the county takes the brunt of that, so I think this auction was very successful in helping the county recoup some of that money.”

Meleen said she hopes to continue to hold future tax auctions online as well.

Our government seems so proud of themselves for taking homeowners homes and properties to recoup all this money and who sees all the money? Sure have seen any changes for the community.just more homeless individuals and empty houses.an more money to provide raises in governments pockets.most of the people have fell on hard times.with the lovely covid our government gave to us.those people have paid for many years.when do we get a break?? Just like water is a natural resourse our earth gives us..gives us..but were still made to pay to use it.i can bet not one family member of any government workers family is feeling this pain.besides the homeless problem we also are faced sadly with a herion problem thats claimed way to many ppl.all this money recouped an yet theres nothing offered free to help avoid more deaths.you offer so much help till we ask for it an then theres never any funding.i keep reading that our governme ts working so hard to keep ppl in there homes.thats why there was 800 homes to be auctioned.thats a lot of homes to be takin.so much for we are all equal.together we stand.its all about money.theres no such thing as equals.an yet we are aaked to open our homes to immagrants.an watch them get homes an jobs handed to them.how about helping the ppl that are us citizens first.help the homeless and addictions get grounding again.not give false hope.how about docking all these government workers checks to help our community grow and get well.what a war that would cause.mabey having to struggle to just breathe like the rest of us will open some eyes.quit giving police new vehicles every other yr.make them buy an maintain them same as us.would recoup alot of extra money instead of evicting.give homeowners the chance to still make monthly payments for taxes when homes paid for.not just right before loosing there home.alot easier then one lump sum.giving only 2 yrs seems desperate on governments part.why is it our government always seems broke? Why do we have to suffer to repay things we had no say in.we get reminded on how we are free usa.please explain how thats possible?? Whats free? You rather watch mre of our kids die because theres no help unless your rich.wait till these homeless ppl start breaking in and taking what they need an want to survive because there gonna get tired of nobody helpjng.but heres 15 immigrants that will have places to live and income. Not homeless.an theres more to get brought here.i read Jamestown stands to get $9 million for letting them come here.an look at this sad dirty town.mre empty homes them occupied.bed bug infestations..so much closed down.with all the money from just selling homes.an our town looks like it does…ppl take blame as always.how bout couple reck centers for our kids??? How bout a shelter for women? Mre transitional homes for free..that empty quaility markets that just had to get built an sets empty.raised our taxes tho.make it into a nice rehab.free….use other empty buildings to help homeless..make a cuple into hands on training programs..Give ppl a reason and. See the change..not just take take take.even tho were not a government worker we are still human beings with feelings an would like to welcome the time were here not be slaves an would rather die then have everything takin to recoup debts we didnt create.someone might wanna redo that constitutional rights..
