PORTLAND – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of its own.
Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace announced Thursday that 50 year-old Deputy Kevin Link died Wednesday during an off-duty medical emergency while returning home from a run.
According to the Jamestown Post-Journal, Link had been a member of the Sheriff’s Office for 16 years and was currently serving as a School Resource Officer at the Silver Creek Central School District, where he had been assigned the past three years.
Link was an active member of the Sheriff’s Office Dive and SWAT teams, and also a proficient EMT.
He also served in the U.S. Army was a former deputy with the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, before transferring to Chautauqua County.
Deputy Link leaves behind a wife and family. An obituary and funeral announcement is expected in the coming days.
