MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph A. Gerace – along with three deputies, a deputy sheriff sergeant, and a corrections sergeant – were recently certified as New York State Basic-EMT’s.
The Sheriff’s Office now has 13 law enforcement EMT’s who can respond to EMS calls throughout the county. Their primary function will be to assist local fire departments and EMS units as first responders.
According to Sheriff Gerace, the program has been extremely successful since it commenced in March.
Gerace says the next phase of the program will began next month when 19 academy recruits and eight part-time deputies will start the Basic EMT Course – which has been added as a permanent component to the Sheriff’s Academy curriculum.
