NORTH HARMONY – The investigation continues into a fatal car crash that took place this past weekend in North Harmony.
The crash took place Saturday night on Butts Rd. and led to the death of the passenger – 23 year old Darrin Power of Elma. The driver of the car – 24 year old Patrick Grimm of Ashville – was treated at WCA Hospital in Jamestown and later released.
Now, YNN Jamestown is reporting that Sheriff Joe Gerace is anticipating several charges will be filed against Grimm. Gerace said Grimm was traveling at a high rate of speed in a Porsche 911. The vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees, with pieces of the car being scattered all over the roadway and in the woods. Gerace said that the sheriff’s office believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
District Attorney David Foley is reviewing the case as a possible vehicular manslaughter. However, he said it’s premature to comment on the cause until after the blood tests are returned.
He did say that severity of the charge will be determined based on whether Grimm’s blood alcohol content was higher than the legal limit. The tests are expected to come back at some point in July.
