JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting Tuesday that water customers with the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities may see their rates go up in 2016.
On Monday, the BPU board discussed the 2016 proposed utility budgets and GM David Leathers said they are considering an increase in water rates by 2.3 percent in 2016. But he said that it could be even higher if Jamestown City Council request revenues from the division to go toward the 2016 city budget.
Mayor Sam Teresi’s executive budget is calling for the city to take $250,000 in profits from the BPU and apply it toward next year’s budget. Leathers said if the city council approves using that amount, water rates could be increased by a total of 7 percent.
Leathers is also recommending using no revenues from the BPU electric division because of the rate case with the state Public Service Commission, which didn’t include giving the city any revenues for 2016 when it applied for the increase.
