BPU Seeking a 2.5 Percent Increase in Electric Rates

March 24, 2015 By WRFA Radio 2 Comments

BPUJAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities will be asking the state’s permission to increase electric rates.

According to an article in Tuesday’s Post-Journal, the BPU on Monday approved a “Minirate case” to be filed with the New York Public Service Commission. The rate case is necessary in order to prove that a rate increase is warranted.

If the PSC gives the okay, electric rates for BPU customers would see a 2.5 percent increase. It would equal an average increase of $2 a month for electric customers. The article says the increase would result in $1.2 million of additional revenue for the BPU on an annual basis.
