JAMESTOWN – Board of Public Utility costumers will be seeing a slight increase in their water rates for 2014. But, according to BPU General Manager David Leathers, the 2.5 percent increase in water division rates is the only increase in any of the five divisions for next year.
Earlier this week, the Water Division budget passed with a $0.05 per unit of water increase – which represents a 2.5 percent adjustment. The increase will cost the average residential customer approximately $0.35 more a month or only $4.20 more for the entire year.
The BPU’s 2014 Electric Division budget remains steady this year, with no rate increase.
And the 2014 capital budget is $8.4 Million. Major projects will include: $2.9 Million for design and construction of the Chadakoin substation; $1.1 Million for phased replacement of power plant motor controls and an additional motor control center for the gas plant; $315,000 for various power plant facility and security upgrades, $2.1 Million for T and D system improvements and site security; and $445,000 for vehicle replacement. Energy conservation programs total $482,000 which will be funded through the local conservation adder.
