JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities has adopted the 2017 budget for its District Heating and Cooling division.
The adoption took place during the BPU’s meeting on Monday. The $1.4 million spending plan contains no rate increase for the coming year.
BPU General Manager David Leathers explained that although the projected net income for year-end 2016 is $7300, the proposed budget recommends no rate increase in 2017.
Heat sales in 2017 are expected to be $1.6 million and chiller sales to be $54,000. Operating expenses for 2017 are budgeted to be $1.4 million, which is $20,000 – or 6 percent – more than 2016 projections. This is primarily due to an anticipated increase in fuel costs.
The 2017 capital budget includes $60,000 for water circulation pumps, $20,000 for various distribution line installations and $50,000 for meter replacements and upgrades.
The BPU is expected to review and possible approve its budgets for the electric division, along with solid waste, water and waste water, next month.
