Boil and Conserve Water Notices Remain in Effect for Fredonia Water Customers

October 23, 2017 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

FREDONIA, NY – The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services on Friday issued a mandatory order for Fredonia water costumers to both BOIL and CONSERVE water. And while the conserve water notice has been since lifted, the mandatory boil water notice remains in effect as of Monday morning.

On the morning of October 21, a major leak was found in the Castel Heights area after the water filter plant operator noted high water usage and decreasing water levels and capacity. Crews have successfully repaired the water main breaks.

Residents who use Fredonia water are reminded that they should bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food and infant formula until further notice.

More information on boiling and conserving water can be found at health.ny.gov.
