MAYVILLE – Efforts to finalize the 2014 county budget are moving forward.
According to the Jamestown Post-Journal, the Chautauqua County Legislature’s Audit and Control Committee has reduced the tax levy 3.1 percent with recommended cuts.
The committee made the reduction through several methods, including the removal of $1,050,000 in IGT funding for the Chautauqua County Home. Overall, the committee was able to bring down the tax levy by approximately $2 million. According to committee chairman John Runkle, the tentative 2014 value rate stands at $9.10 per thousand. That’s compared to the 2013 rate was $9.15 per thousand.
The committee will meet again Thursday to make final changes and draft a budget recommendation.
