MAYVILLE – The man who’s overseen the operation of the Chautauqua County Airport in Jamestown has resigned from his post.
Sam Arcadipane resigned from his position as manager of county parks and airports. The immediate resignation took place on Friday, although county officials did not immediately notify the public of Arcadipane’s departure. Instead, the announcement came Sunday night following a report by the Jamestown Post-Journal.
WRFA spoke to Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan on Monday morning and he confirmed that Arcadipane had resigned, although he did not provide details regarding the reasons for the resignation – which was submitted in writing. Horrigan did say, however, that he appreciated Arcadipane’s contribution and assistance in running the airport. He also said that he has appointed Dave Sanctuary as the interim manager. Sanctuary had already served in that capacity prior to retiring.
During the past month, Horrigan and Department of Facilities Director George Spanos had been working with Arcadipane to find a new air service provider for the airport just north of Jamestown. In early February United Airlines announced it was going to terminate its Silver Airways service at the airport by the end of May.
Arcadipane served as manager of county parks and airports since 2012.
