JAMESTOWN – The Preservation League of New York State has included a downtown Jamestown landmark as part of its 2018-19 ‘Seven to Save’ list.
According to the Post-Journal, the long-vacant Arcade Building, located at 26 N. Main St., was added to the list, which is intended to draw attention to the loss of “historic fabric” in National Registered historic districts, while also kick-starting development to bring back notable buildings for reuse.
City development director Vince DeJoy said currently there is no specific plan for the Arcade Building at this time, but several potential developers have inquired about the building.
A recent study of the building commissioned by the Gebbie Foundation found it is still structurally sound, but would require several million dollars in funding in order to renovate and bring back to public use.
