CHERRY CREEK – The Pine Valley school district has cancelled its varsity football season for 2014.
Time Warner Cable news is reporting today that school officials announced Wednesday that they’ve canceled the season because of a lack of interest. A minimum of 16 players are needed to field a team, but only 15 signed on for this season. It’s unclear if players will be able to join another school’s varsity team.
However, the season could be saved by a late recruiting effort, which has resulted in several potential players scheduled to take physicals today. The team’s former coach also says he will return to the sidelines if it means saving the season.
The school board will look into the matter when it meets Thursday at 7 p.m.
